Parametrizing Macropore Infiltration

Makropores can be defined in WaSiM by three Parameters:

• Macropore depth
• Makropore capacity
• Reduction of the macropore capacity per meter of soil depth

Based on these parameters, a maximum possible flow into the macropores can be estimated for each layer in the soil profile (potential macropore flow). Another parameter, the precipitation threshold to activate macropore infiltration, defines the activation of the module. Only precipitation intensities exceeding this threshold will lead to macropore infiltration. Once a macropore is filled, its content will be transferred into the soil matrix, thus empying the macropores for the next time step.
