runoff reconstruction
Reconstructions of historic floods (e.g. by using passed on written sources) are often highly uncertain. Spatially distributed hydrologic models like WaSiM allow the evaluation of various scenarios - in particular if there are some hints on the pre-event precipitation or on the characteristics of the event itself. Model results can give hints on the range of possible peak discharges and thus provide a possibility to invalidate unrealistic runoff reconstructions and to choose the most probable scenario.
